Naren Dambawinne
Managing Director
Naren Dambawinne has over 46 years of experience in the Tea Trade, including 12 years at Somerville & Co. Ltd. After serving there as a Director, he joined Mercantile Brokers Limited as Director – Tea. He was with Mercantile Produce Brokers (Pvt) Ltd for 23 years, the last 14 of which as its Managing Director.
With extensive expertise in grading, tasting, auctioning, marketing of tea, and an indebth knowledge of administration and regulations, Mr. Dambawinne is highly respected within the industry. He has served as Past Convener of the Tea Sub-Committee in 1988/89 and 2002/03, and as the Broker Representative on the Committee of the Colombo Tea Traders Association (CTTA) in 1989, 2007/2008, 2019/2020, and 2024/2025.
He has also been appointed as a surveyor for Tea exports by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and was a Member of the Tea Council by the Hon. Minister of Plantation Industries in 1996. Additionally, he has held numerous leadership positions, including:
• Deputy Chairman, Colombo Brokers Association (2004/2005 and 2005/2006)
• Chairman, Colombo Brokers Association (2007/2008, 2019/2020, 2024/2025)
• Chairman, Tea Association of Sri Lanka (2007/2008)
Furthermore, he was a member of the committee related to the Plantations Sector, appointed by the Minister of Public Enterprise Development, from 2017 to 2019.
