Colombo Tea Auction
The saga of Broking in Sri Lanka commenced as far back in 1883 where the first ever Tea Auction was conducted on the 30th of July. The Colombo Tea Auction is conducted usually on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s each week, with the Low grown teas being sold on the first day, followed by the High Grown and Off Grades/Dust on the 2nd day. Currently the broking activities are carried out by 8 firms with the last entrant being Lanka Commodity Brokers Limited (LCBL).
LCBL’s maiden tea catalogue was sold on the first of July 2003, exactly 120 years since first ever Tea Auction was held, where the company had a modest 165 lots on offer. Since then there has been no turning back for LCBL who together with a dynamic team of Industry Professionals who has been individually head-hunted and hand picked, have formed the company onto an innovative and vibrant unit which now controls 15% of the market share. LCBL’s share of the current market is much higher than several established Brokers who have been in business for over a century.
The collective experience of LCBL team is well in excess of 100 years which only one other Broking Company can be proud of. We strongly believe in the dictum “The Client is King”. Our service is personalized and we strive harder than the other Brokers in Sri Lanka. It is with this success and confidence that we look into the future to play a vital and aggressive role as an independent Broker, internationally, to be the world’s largest multi-origin Tea Broker.
Apart from Tea, we also deal in other commodities such as Rubber/Desiccated Coconut/Black Pepper/Coffee/Cashew Nuts & Spices.
